Build a trade that's always in demand
Carpenters are essential to growing communities and the tiwšɛmawtxʷ campus Carpentry Foundation Level 1 program helps meet that need in the qathet region.
The program prepares you for entry into the building industry through a balance of hands-on training and applied learning. Gain experience in framing, formwork and finishing while developing skills valued across the construction sector.
A highlight of the program is an eight-week off-site project where you and your class build real houses and structures within the local community. Students complete the layout, excavation, concrete work and framing. This experiential opportunity is one of only two available in British Columbia!
You will also complete a two-week Work Experience placement with local contractors. Learn valuable skills and gain real world understanding of what it’s like to work in the industry while networking with qathet-based employers. These work placements often result in full-time employment.
