If you are enrolled in a program or course at VIU tiwšɛmawtxʷ in-person or as an online student and part of the VIU family, we recommend you take advantage of the following services.
Bike racks
Bike racks are located at the right side of the front of campus outside the entrance to the gym.
Computer access for students
Students can access computers anytime during campus opening hours in these locations
- Room 113. Computer lab. 20 workstations available
- Room 153. The Writing Centre. 6 workstations available
- Library commons. 2 workstations available
- qʷeqʷayʔawt̓xʷ - The Gathering Place. 2 workstations. Priority is given to Indigenous students
Student laptops are also available on loan for day use. Please speak with front of office staff to sign out a laptop.
Device charging station
Charge any of your devices in a free, secure charging locker. The charging station is located in the Library on the left of the main doorway.
Food For Thought Cafe
The café is open from September to June, Monday to Friday from 830 am to 230 pm. The café serves a variety of budget friendly breakfast and lunch items, snacks and beverages. If you want to try their famous soups, get their early!
Gymnasium
Our gymnasium is used for student events throughout the year. Community pickleballers and floor hockey players also use the space. Want to play pickleball, five-aside football or basketball? Talk to the front office.
Library Commons
A quiet study area. A place to relax with fellow students. Various boardgames and art supplies are available for student use. Smaller scale student events are hosted in this space throughout the year.
Lockers
Available to every student. Register for your locker at the front office.
Parking
There is ample parking in front of campus, off Nootka Street. To the right side of the campus parking lot is a free EV charging station.
Additional parking is available at the rear of campus accessed via Massett Street.
Photocopying and printing
For all your copying needs please go to the front office and they will assist you. Colour printer, copier and scanner for student use will be coming soon and will be located in the Library commons.
Picnic tables
Picnic tables for student use are located on the left of the main entrance, outside the entrance to the gymnasium and Food For Thought Cafe and at the rear of campus.
qʷeqʷayʔawt̓xʷ - The Gathering Place

Student commons
All students are welcome to relax or study in the area across from the Food For Thought Cafe. There is also a vending machine here offering snacks and drinks.
Student Pantry
We are committed to ensuring that none of our students should ever have to choose between achieving their educational goals and basic living essentials. If you require non-perishable food items and sundries, visit the nook in the back corner of the campus library and help yourself to anything you need.
Student software
All students at Vancouver Island University are provided with a license for Microsoft Office valid for the duration of their studies. Other specialized software may also be available. Explore Software at VIU.
