Course details
The Introduction to Deconstruction and Circular Economy professional development program prepares participants to support the recovery, reuse, and repurposing of materials from construction, renovation, and demolition (C&D) projects.
This five-day program provides training in hazardous materials awareness, operational health and safety, and practical deconstruction and salvage activities, with a focus on reuse, recycling, and emerging circular economy opportunities.
Learning will take place in and out of the classroom addressing material diversion and assessing value and building markets for these materials. Participants will develop the knowledge and skills needed to work safely and effectively in deconstruction environments while contributing to a more resilient regional economy.

Instructor: Chris Arkell
With over 30 years of hands-on building experience, Chris has a deep, practical understanding of the construction industry’s unique waste and material diversion needs. In 2016, he channeled that expertise into solving a major environmental problem by co-founding Sea to Sky Removal. Beyond offering general waste management, the company became an award-winning leader in advocacy and education, actively shifting how the construction sector views and handles waste.
After successfully selling Sea to Sky Removal to a client in 2024, its legacy in landfill diversion continues. Today, Chris is back to his original passion—building—where he continues to educate and champion doing things the right way from the ground up.
